The Basics

Emergency preparedness doesn't need to be complicated. Get the basics right, build your kit over time, and make sure everyone at home knows the plan. Small steps now make a critical difference when it matters.

WHERE TO START

Four Steps to Get Prepared

Every household can work through these in a weekend. Do them in order.

1
Know your risksBushfire, flood, storm, heatwave or all of the above? Your location decides which guides matter most to you.
2
Make a planWhere you'll go, how you'll get there, who you'll contact and what triggers you to leave. Write it down.
3
Build a kitStart with water, food, light and first aid. Add to it every pay cycle until it covers at least three days.
4
Stay informedKnow where official warnings come from before you need them, and keep a battery radio for when networks go down.
