Eight knots that cover most camp, shelter and tie-down jobs.
- Bowline: a fixed loop that won't slip or jam
- Clove hitch: a quick tie to a pole, post or tree
- Round turn and two half hitches: a secure tie to a pole, ring or tree
- Figure eight: a stopper so rope can't pull through a hole
- Sheet bend: joining two ropes, even of different thickness
- Trucker's hitch: pulling a ridgeline or load tight
- Taut-line hitch: an adjustable loop for tent and tarp guy lines
- Reef knot: tying a bandage, sling or bundle so it lies flat. Never use it to join ropes that will carry a load.
These knots are not instructions for climbing, abseiling, or lifting or lowering people.
