A countertop water distiller with a 4-litre stainless steel boiling tank and a matching collection bottle.

Distillation works by boiling water, then cooling the steam back into liquid in the collection bottle. Dissolved solids and most other impurities stay behind in the boiling tank. The supplier rates this 750W unit at up to about 22.7L of distilled water per day.

The internal tank, inner cap, inlet, outlet and all parts in contact with water are 304 stainless steel. An aluminium cooling fan and stainless steel exhaust cap help with heat dissipation. It runs from a single button and shuts down automatically if the tank temperature goes above 115°C.

Activated carbon packs and a fruit acid cleaner are included. A carry handle on top makes it easy to move.

Distillation is one of the most thorough ways to treat water at home, and you can make your own distilled water instead of buying it. It does need mains power or a generator, so it pairs well with a gravity filter for outages.

The tank, lid and steam outlet get very hot during use. Let the unit cool fully and unplug it before opening, emptying or cleaning. Empty leftover water from the tank after each cycle, descale regularly with the included fruit acid cleaner or citric acid, and replace the carbon pack as recommended in the manual.
