A stackable round-style dehydrator with seven clear trays and a digital timer.

This Devanti model (FD-B-1159, 7-tray) has a base with a stainless steel finish and seven clear food-grade PS plastic trays that stack on top. Each tray holds about 1kg of sliced fruit, vegetables, herbs or meat. Set the temperature from 40°C to 70°C and the timer from 1 to 48 hours on the LCD display.

It's a low-draw 245W unit with overheat protection and a built-in handle. The trays are plastic, not stainless, and can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher. Extra trays for this series are sold separately as a 2-pack.

Drying is a low-cost way to make food last longer and take up less room. A stackable unit is light, packs away easily and can be expanded with extra trays.

Electrical safety: Rated 220–240V, 50Hz with an Australian standard plug (per the supplier). Use on a stable, heat-resistant bench with clear space around the vents and never cover the unit while running. Keep the cord away from heat and water, don't use it with a damaged cord or plug, unplug before cleaning and when not in use, and keep children away while it's hot. Never immerse the base in water.

Food safety: Dehydrating removes moisture but doesn't reliably kill bacteria on its own, and this unit tops out at 70°C air temperature. For jerky, heat meat strips to at least 71°C internally (75°C for poultry), for example by steaming or simmering before drying or finishing in a hot oven afterwards. Use lean, fresh meat or fish, keep it refrigerated until it goes in, and dry until there are no moist spots. On stacked units, rotate trays during drying for more even results.

Storage: Cool dried food completely, then store it airtight in a cool, dry, dark place. Label it with the date and check for moisture, mould or off smells before eating.

Care: Wipe the base with a damp cloth. Trays can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher; avoid harsh scourers on the clear plastic.
